According to The Standard, Barcelona will be without key attacking talent Lamine Yamal and defender Andreas Christensen as they prepare to host arch-rivals Real Madrid in a pivotal ‘Clasico’ clash this Sunday.

A draw at the Nou Camp would be enough for Hansi Flick’s side to clinch the league title, adding immense pressure to a fixture already steeped in history and rivalry.

The Catalan giants enter the match knowing their destiny is in their own hands, a stark contrast to a Real Madrid side reportedly “ravaged by controversy and injury in recent weeks.”

For Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, securing the title would mark a significant achievement, positioning him to become only the fourth Barca coach this century to win back-to-back league titles in his first two seasons at the helm.

Key absences and title implications

The absence of Lamine Yamal, who was ruled out for the remainder of the season last month with a hamstring injury, is a significant blow to Barcelona’s attacking options.

Despite his club commitments being over, the young forward is expected to be fit enough to represent Spain at this summer’s World Cup. Joining him on the sidelines is former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, whose season also concluded prematurely due to an ACL tear.

These injuries force Flick to rely on his squad depth and tactical acumen for the high-stakes encounter.

Predicted Barcelona lineup

In goal, Joan Garcia has firmly established himself as the regular number one. The defensive line is expected to see Eric Garcia at right-back, a role he filled in the previous outing against Osasuna, with Joao Cancelo deployed on the left. The central defensive partnership is anticipated to be Pau Curbasi and Gerard Martin.

In midfield, the formidable duo of Gavi and Pedri are likely to partner each other, tasked with controlling the engine room against their fierce rivals. Further forward, the attacking midfield and wing positions will see some adjustments due to Yamal’s absence:

  • Right Wing: Roony Bardghji has made a strong claim for the berth in Yamal’s absence.
  • Attacking Midfield (No. 10): Dani Olmo is set to start in the central creative role.
  • Left Wing: Fermin Lopez has been the preferred option off the left in recent games.

Leading the line, Robert Lewandowski remains the undisputed centre-forward. Additionally, Marcus Rashford’s loan deal from Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, a point of consideration for Barcelona’s future squad planning.

Barcelona’s predicted starting XI (4-2-3-1): J. Garcia; E. Garcia, Curbasi, Martin, Cancelo; Pedri, Gavi; Bardghji, Olmo, Fermin; Lewandowski.
