Transfer speculation is mounting around two Manchester City players, Bernardo Silva and Omar Marmoush, who are reportedly in direct communication with former teammate İlkay Gündoğan regarding potential summer switches to Turkish giants Galatasaray.

According to reports from Turkish newspaper Sabah, cited by Sportwitness, both Silva and Marmoush have been sounding out Gündoğan, who now plies his trade in Istanbul, about life at the club and in the Süper Lig. Gündoğan himself recently hinted at these conversations.

“Some of my former teammates called me and asked questions about the club and the league, but I don’t want to give names,” Gündoğan admitted, fueling the rumours.

Galatasaray, who can offer Champions League football, appears to be an attractive proposition for players seeking a new challenge and top-tier European competition.

Silva’s contract situation and European interest

Bernardo Silva, aged 31, has long been a target for Galatasaray. His situation is particularly intriguing as he is set to become a free agent this summer when his contract at the Etihad Stadium expires. This makes him a highly sought-after player across Europe, with Juventus among the clubs keen on securing his services.

A key factor in Silva’s decision-making process is his desire to continue playing for a team that participates in the Champions League, a condition Galatasaray can meet.

The Portuguese international’s availability on a free transfer, combined with his proven quality, makes him a prime target for clubs looking to strengthen without significant outlay.

Marmoush’s struggle for impact and potential Icardi replacement

Omar Marmoush, 27, has also reportedly contacted Gündoğan directly to gather information about Galatasaray. The Egyptian forward has struggled to make a significant impact at Manchester City since his arrival last year, finding himself behind the likes of Erling Haaland, Ryan Cherki, and Antoine Semenyo.

Before joining Manchester City, Marmoush had a successful carrier in Germany, showcasing his potential. His current lack of play-time at City could prompt a move, especially as he may be keen to see what the club’s plans are in the post-Pep Guardiola era.

Galatasaray’s interest in Marmoush is also linked to the future of their current striker, Mauro Icardi, whose retention decision is yet to be made. Should Icardi depart, Marmoush could be seen as a viable replacement.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the influence of İlkay Gündoğan could prove pivotal in Galatasaray’s recruitment drive, potentially bringing two more former Manchester City players to the Turkish champions.
