Manchester United are set to enter the summer transfer window with significant financial firepower, with the club potentially having close to £300 million available to spend on new signings, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Over the last six weeks, United made repayments totalling £110 million to their revolving credit facility, which is primarily used to fund player acquisitions. These payments, detailed in information shared on Thursday, have significantly bolstered the club’s financial headroom ahead of the transfer window opening on June 15.
Repayments clear the path for summer spending
The repayments were executed in three distinct tranches:
- £50 million on April 22
- £20 million on May 18
- £40 million on May 27
These actions leave £250 million available on the credit facility for transfers. Coupled with increased revenue streams and savings from ongoing cost-cutting initiatives, the club is in a strong position to commit close to £300 million to new signings this summer, according to reporting by Manchester United correspondent Steven Railston.

The focus on establishing a firmer financial footing has been a priority for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his board members since their partial acquisition of the club. United CEO Omar Berrada underscored this positive trajectory, stating, “We feel very positive about the club’s progress this season and the continuing positive impact of our business transformation initiatives.”
Key targets identified for squad overhaul
With a substantial budget at their disposal, United has clearly defined its transfer priorities for the upcoming window. The club aims to overhaul its midfield, strengthen the left wing, and secure a new left-back. These areas are seen as crucial for improving the squad’s depth and quality.
Early indications suggest progress on at least one front, with United reportedly close to finalizing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The transfer for the Brazilian is understood to be worth around £38 million and could mark the club’s first signing of the summer.
Crucially, the potential arrival of Ederson is not expected to alter United’s broader strategy to sign a marquee replacement for Casemiro. Newcastle United’s Elliot Anderson is currently at the top of United’s shortlist for this pivotal midfield role, indicating the club’s ambition to address multiple areas of the squad with high-calibre additions.
