Nurse describes pressure of private care
A former nurse who cared for Michael Schumacher has described the physical and emotional demands of working inside the Formula 1 legend’s private medical team.
Her account was presented through her lawyer as Australian-born racing driver Joey Mawson, 30, went on trial in Switzerland accused of raping her. Mawson is alleged to have assaulted the woman twice in November 2019 after a cocktail party at Schumacher’s property. He denies the allegations and claims the encounter was consensual, according to a SportBible article.
The nurse has firmly rejected that version of events.
Lawyer points to demanding work environment
On the opening day of the trial, the woman’s lawyer described her former role as “extremely demanding”, both physically and emotionally.

Schumacher suffered a traumatic brain injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013. He was placed in an induced coma and later began a long period of rehabilitation. Since then, his family has kept details of his condition private.
The lawyer said that privacy placed additional pressure on staff working around the family.
“Added to that is the culture of silence surrounding this family,” the lawyer said. “That’s understandable. But for the employees, who aren’t even allowed to talk to their friends about their daily lives, the pressure is enormous.”
The court also heard that the nurse had taken on some of the most difficult duties in Schumacher’s care team and was relied upon when staffing gaps needed to be filled. She no longer works for the Schumacher family.

Schumacher family not part of case
No members of the Schumacher family were present at the property at the time of the alleged incident, and the family is not named as part of the case.
Schumacher, a seven-time Formula 1 world champion, has lived largely out of public view since his accident. His family has repeatedly sought to protect his privacy and has released only limited information about his health.
Mawson’s motorsport background
Mawson, who is originally from Sydney, has competed across several racing categories, including Formula 3, formerly GP3, and the Porsche Supercup. He also took part in the Bathurst 12 Hour in 2022.
He has recently been serving a three-year motorsport ban after failing a drugs test linked to the use of a fitness supplement. That ban was listed as expiring on May 13.

Verdict expected in Switzerland
The case is being heard in Switzerland, where the allegations date back to November 2019.
Mawson denies wrongdoing, while the nurse maintains that she was unconscious and did not consent. A verdict in the case had been expected on Friday, June 5.
