Dusan Vlahovic, a prolific striker available on a free transfer this summer, has been rejected by La Liga heavyweights Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid, with all three clubs reportedly balking at his significant salary demands. This unexpected turn of events has intensified speculation that the 26-year-old Serbian international could now be headed for the Premier League.
Vlahovic departed Juventus after failing to agree on a new contract, despite a productive tenure that saw him score 68 goals in 168 games for the Turin club. His contributions included the decisive goal that secured the Coppa Italia for Juventus in 2024. However, his wage expectations appear to be a major hurdle for even Europe’s elite.
Spanish clubs balk at demands
According to reports from Matteo Moretto and confirmed by Madrid Xtra, Vlahovic was offered to Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid as a free agent. Despite his proven goal-scoring record, none of the Spanish giants were willing to meet his asking price. This sentiment was echoed by Juventus sporting director and former defender Giorgio Chiellini, who stated, “With these figures, he won’t remain in Italy, so it is only fair and legitimate that he is seeking a different type of salary.”
Vlahovic initially joined Juventus from Fiorentina in January 2022 for a substantial £66 million fee, underscoring the high regard in which he was held. His recent form, including four goals in his final four Serie A games, suggests he remains a potent attacking force.

Premier League suitors emerge
With the Spanish door seemingly closed, attention has quickly shifted to England. Italian outlet Tutto Juve reports that Chelsea is currently the “most likely” club to secure Vlahovic’s signature. The London club, now under new manager Xabi Alonso, is looking to bolster its attacking options, which currently include Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Nicolas Jackson, who is returning from a loan spell.
Newcastle United has also entered the fray, with Gazzetta dello Sport indicating that the Magpies are interested in the striker. Vlahovic and his agent are said to have “listened to a proposal” from Newcastle. The Tyneside club is in need of attacking reinforcements following Anthony Gordon’s departure to Barcelona and the struggles of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa to consistently replace Alexander Isak.
As a proven goalscorer available without a transfer fee, Vlahovic presents an intriguing, albeit expensive, proposition. His next destination will likely hinge on which club is prepared to meet the salary demands that have already priced out some of Europe’s biggest names.
