Rúben Amorim is reportedly planning a double raid on former club Manchester United as he begins rebuilding AC Milan.

The Portuguese coach, who was dismissed by United in January, replaced Massimiliano Allegri at San Siro this summer after Milan finished fifth in Serie A and missed out on Champions League qualification.

Amorim has already welcomed Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain. The Portuguese striker is Milan’s first signing of the summer, as confirmed by the Italian club.

His attention has now reportedly turned towards two players he previously managed at Old Trafford.

Amad emerges as priority target

Amad has been identified as one of Milan’s leading attacking targets, according to CaughtOffside.

The 24-year-old worked under Amorim at United and produced some of his best performances while operating as a wing-back in the Portuguese coach’s system. He has since returned to a more advanced position under Michael Carrick, helping United secure a third-place Premier League finish and Champions League qualification.

Amad also represented Ivory Coast at the World Cup, although many of his appearances came from the bench.

Milan are reportedly considering a financially cautious offer, but United have little reason to sell. Amad remains an important member of Carrick’s squad and is under contract until June 2030 after signing a new five-and-a-half-year agreement in January 2025, as reported by The Guardian.

The winger is not believed to be pushing for an exit. A return to Italy, where he began his senior career with Atalanta, could appeal to him if United’s position changes, but there is currently no indication that the club intends to sanction a transfer.

Mazraoui talks reportedly opened

Amorim is also interested in reuniting with Noussair Mazraoui.

Milan have contacted the defender’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, although formal negotiations between the two clubs have not yet begun, according to The Sun.

The 28-year-old’s versatility made him a regular under Amorim at United. He can play on either side of the defence, as a wing-back or in a three-man back line, making him a natural fit for the system Milan’s new coach is expected to introduce.

Any move may depend on the future of Pervis Estupiñán, who has attracted interest from Aston Villa. Mazraoui has reportedly been identified as a potential replacement, although Milan would first need to agree a deal with United.

United hold the upper hand

Interest in both players remains at an early stage. Milan have not submitted a confirmed bid for Amad, while discussions over Mazraoui have reportedly been limited to contact with his representative.

United are therefore under no immediate pressure to negotiate, particularly over Amad. The Ivorian’s long contract and importance to Carrick leave the Premier League club in a strong position.

Amorim may want familiar faces to launch his new era in Italy, but turning his proposed Old Trafford reunion into reality will require substantially more than Milan’s opening interest.
