Enzo Fernández has broken his silence following Argentina’s 1–0 defeat by Spain in the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium.

The midfielder was dismissed in second-half stoppage time before Ferran Torres scored Spain’s winning goal in extra time. According to The Standard’s report, Fernández was initially booked for dissent before receiving a second yellow card for a late challenge on Pau Cubarsí.

Rather than focus on the dismissal, Fernández used his statement to reflect on what representing Argentina means to him.

A message to Argentina’s supporters

Fernández also thanked the Argentine fans who followed the defending champions throughout the tournament in North America.

“I want to thank all the Argentine fans. Thank you for always being there, for supporting us in every match, for your affection, for your unconditional support, and for making us feel at home no matter where we are in the world,” he wrote.

The 25-year-old ended his message by reaffirming his commitment to the national team.

“Wearing my country’s shirt is the greatest honor of my career, and I will continue to give everything I have every time I’m called upon to defend it.”

Red card left unaddressed

Fernández did not mention his dismissal or apologise for the challenge in the statement. Instead, his message centred on Argentina’s collective effort, the bond with the supporters and his pride in representing the country.
