Mohamed Salah, the 34-year-old forward, is reportedly on the cusp of a significant move to the Turkish Süper Lig, with Besiktas emerging as his likely destination. The transfer would mark a new chapter for Salah, who recently departed Liverpool after a storied nine-year tenure, having run down his contract at Anfield.

Besiktas has tabled a lucrative offer, with reports suggesting a contract worth up to €12.5 million annually. Other outlets indicate a figure closer to €10-12 million per year. This proposed deal is structured for one season, with an option for an additional year. While substantial, the €240,000 per week salary represents a notable decrease from the £400,000 Salah earned in his final season with Liverpool.

Besiktas tables significant offer

Negotiations with Salah’s representative, Ramy Abbas, have reportedly reached a critical juncture, with both parties finding common ground on personal terms after initial discussions stalled over financial aspects. Besiktas President Serdal Adal has been personally overseeing the talks, and a key breakthrough came when Abbas agreed to reduce his commission demands.

According to FotoMac, Adal confirmed the ongoing discussions, stating, “As has been published in the media, we have for some time been conducting negotiations with Salah and his representatives regarding the details of the deal.” He added, “In the final stage… we submitted our final official offer. We also asked them to inform us of their decision within a short period.”

A new chapter after Liverpool struggles

Salah’s departure from Liverpool follows a challenging final season under manager Arne Slot, which included public disagreements and what was statistically his worst campaign in terms of output, recording seven combined goals and assists. Despite this, his overall legacy at Liverpool is undeniable:

• 257 goals and 123 assists in 442 games across all competitions.

• Two Premier League titles.

• A Champions League trophy.

• An FA Cup.

• Two Player of the Season campaigns.

His decision to run down his contract signals a desire for a fresh start after a period that, for all its individual brilliance, ended with a sense of transition. Salah’s country also experienced a disappointing 2026 World Cup, squandering a two-goal lead against Argentina to lose late in the Round of 16.

For Besiktas, securing Salah would be a major coup as they look to bolster their squad. The club finished fourth in the Süper Lig last season and is competing in the Europa League, having recently beaten FC Midtjylland 1-0 in the first leg of their tie. The second leg is scheduled for July 30. If the deal materialises, Salah would join former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who now manages Besiktas, and newly acquired Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard, who also recently moved to the Turkish club.
