Paris Saint-Germain have intensified their pursuit of Ferran Torres as they look to reshape their attacking options. The French club are speaking directly with the Spain international’s representatives, although reports differ over whether Torres has already decided that he wants to leave Barcelona. No formal offer or agreement between the clubs has been confirmed.

PSG establish direct contact

According to Foot01’s article, which includes Fabrizio Romano’s original update, the transfer reporter wrote: “Paris Saint-Germain remain in direct talks with Ferran Torres camp over move this summer. Barça do NOT want to sell Ferran; the only way is if Ferran asks to leave the club.” Romano did not state that PSG had submitted an offer or that daily contact was taking place.

The same article cites Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, who claims Torres has told people close to him and several team-mates that he wants to join PSG. Aouna also reported that discussions between the clubs were planned for the following week. Neither Torres nor Barcelona has publicly confirmed that he has submitted a transfer request.

Moretto reports progress in negotiations

According to a ParisFans article citing Matteo Moretto, Torres is open to joining PSG after his contract talks with Barcelona stalled. The report claims the contractual terms offered by PSG would not present a problem. It also says direct negotiations between the clubs could begin shortly.

Those details came from Moretto rather than Romano, as stated in the original draft. No reliable source has confirmed that PSG will definitely submit an official bid within a specific number of days. Interest and discussions with the player’s representatives should therefore be distinguished from a formal club-to-club offer.

Barcelona still plan to keep Torres

Barcelona’s reported position is that Torres remains an important member of Hansi Flick’s squad. According to Goal’s report based on information from Sport, the club intend to discuss a contract extension after the summer transfer window. The same report says Barcelona had received no official approach from PSG and no request to leave from the player or his agent.

President Joan Laporta offered a similar public response during the World Cup. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo’s article, Laporta said: “I have heard something about it, but we have no confirmation. He is a Barça player.” His comments were made on 13 July, before the latest reports of direct talks with Torres’s camp.

Contract situation increases the pressure

Torres’s current contract expires in June 2027, leaving Barcelona with a significant decision if he declines a new agreement. Selling this summer would allow the club to receive a substantial fee, while keeping him without a renewal would create the risk of losing him for nothing next year. Reports have placed Barcelona’s possible asking price between €45 million and €55 million, but no official valuation has been announced.

The 26-year-old joined Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022 and scored 21 goals in 49 appearances during the 2025–26 campaign. He also scored Spain’s extra-time winner against Argentina in the World Cup final. The original reference to him being part of Xavi Hernández’s current squad was outdated, as Barcelona are now coached by Hansi Flick.

Torres has yet to speak publicly

Torres avoided discussing his club future while representing Spain at the World Cup. As quoted by Cadena SER, he said: “I neither know nor care how my renewal is going.” The remark was made while he was concentrating on the tournament and did not amount to a transfer request.

PSG’s interest is now well established, but several decisive elements remain unconfirmed. There is no publicly verified bid, no agreement between the clubs and no direct statement from Torres announcing that he wants to leave. Barcelona’s willingness to negotiate will ultimately depend on the player making his position clear.
