Armand Duplantis will bid for a fourth consecutive European Athletics Championships pole vault title when the men’s final takes place at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on Sunday 16 August, from 7:30pm local time.

The Swede arrives in Birmingham after withdrawing from the London Diamond League with an injury concern, but organisers have confirmed he is on the entry list for the championships, which run from 10 to 16 August.

Duplantis has dominated the event since his first senior European title in 2018, and Birmingham gives him the chance to extend that run to four in a row. The European Championships also remain the one major stage where a world record has so far eluded him, while a championship record is within realistic range.

He has framed the week in personal terms in the build-up, telling Olympics.com: “I’m jumping for something bigger than myself.”
