Chelsea are the story. The club has committed roughly £348m in fees so far this summer, more than any other side in world football, ahead of Tottenham on £228m and Arsenal and Manchester City on £151m each. Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City have all broken their club transfer records during the window.
Across the division, Premier League clubs spent £2.14bn between mid-June and 17 August, according to figures compiled by FootballTransfers.com. That total was already higher than the full-window outlays for 2024 (£1.98bn), 2022 (£1.94bn), 2021 (£1.13bn) and 2020 (£1.32bn). With more deals since, the running total had reached £2.37bn by 22 August, and with the September 1 deadline still eleven days away the figure is only rising.
A summer of nine-figure moves
The individual fees explain the aggregate. Morgan Rogers, an England international who was at the 2026 World Cup, left Aston Villa for Chelsea. Elliot Anderson, his midfield partner in the Three Lions squad, joined Manchester City from Nottingham Forest. Both moves sit among the seven £100m-plus transfers of the window.
Former Newcastle midfield partners Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães have gone their separate ways too, joining opposite sides of the north London divide: Tonali at Tottenham and Guimarães at Arsenal.

Roughly £785m of the summer’s spending has moved between Premier League clubs, money that never leaves the division and that piles further onto sides who then reinvest it.
The rest of Europe is not close
The gap to the continent is not a rounding difference. Serie A’s clubs have committed £780m this summer, La Liga’s £515m, the Bundesliga’s £505m and Ligue 1’s £412m. With the Premier League already through £2.37bn, England’s top flight has out-spent those four other big-five leagues combined.
Paul Macdonald, founder of FootballTransfers.com, told BBC Sport (via Yahoo) that the running total was already higher than the full summer outlay in every year from 2020 to 2024.
The £3bn benchmark from last summer
The one figure the 2026 window has not yet cleared is its immediate predecessor. Premier League clubs spent more than £3bn in the summer of 2025, Sky Sports reported, shattering the previous division record of £2.44bn set in 2023. That total was capped by Alexander Isak’s British-record £125m move from Newcastle to Liverpool.

At the current run rate, the 2026 window could get within reach of that £3bn mark by deadline day. Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are all still linked with further business, and the clubs that have banked eight- and nine-figure sales this summer, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa among them, have reinvestment to do.
The window closes at 11pm local time on September 1.
