Atalanta’s pursuit of Jonathan Rowe has moved close to a conclusion after a substantial increase in their offer. The Bergamo club are prepared to pay more than €40 million, including bonuses, for the Bologna winger. One condition, however, continues to prevent the deal from being completed.
Atalanta finally make their breakthrough
An initial proposal of approximately €35 million plus bonuses was rejected by Bologna, who were reluctant to lose one of their most dangerous attacking players. Atalanta returned with an improved package and have now made significant progress in negotiations. Rowe has also reportedly approved the move to Bergamo.
As described by SportMediaset in its latest update, Atalanta and Bologna have reached an agreement in principle worth slightly more than €40 million with bonuses. Rowe already has the basis of a contract running until 2031, while his representatives have travelled to Bologna to help complete the negotiations. The transfer has not yet been formally announced.
Bologna will not sell without protection
Bologna’s position is based on timing rather than simply the size of the offer. The club are willing to consider Rowe’s departure but do not want to weaken Domenico Tedesco’s squad without first securing another wide attacker. That requirement has created a transfer chain involving several clubs.

According to Alessio Del Lungo’s report for TuttomercatoWeb, Bologna have asked for information about Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas. The Switzerland international is also reportedly close to Olympiacos, meaning Bologna may already be late in their attempt to intervene. Further alternatives could therefore be required before Rowe is allowed to leave.
Rowe fits Sarri’s attacking plan
Rowe joined Bologna from Marseille in 2025 after beginning his senior career with Norwich City. The 23-year-old can operate on either wing, although his pace and direct running make him particularly dangerous from the left. Those qualities fit the demands of Maurizio Sarri’s attacking system at Atalanta.
The proposed fee shows how strongly Atalanta value a player who has spent only one season in Serie A. Bologna, meanwhile, are in a potentially profitable position but must balance the financial opportunity against the sporting consequences of a late sale. The agreement appears close, yet its completion still depends on Bologna finding the player who can replace Rowe.
