The 24-year-old has emerged as one of two options for the Bianconeri as they scramble to reshape their attack before the Italian window closes, according to reporting by Matteo Moretto and Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio. Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee is the other name in play, and both moves are being explored as loans with an option to buy.

The route to either signing runs through Jonathan David, whose loan to Atlético Madrid is expected to be finalised before the Italian window shuts on Monday.

Newcastle dig their heels in

The Magpies are not making it easy. Newcastle paid a club-record £69 million to VfB Stuttgart for Woltemade in the summer of 2025, and their position throughout deadline week has been that no forward leaves before another arrives.

Woltemade himself has not asked to leave Newcastle and head coach Matthias Jaissle has publicly backed him to fight for his place. In 53 appearances since his move to Tyneside, the German has produced 11 goals and 6 assists, a bright autumn giving way to a difficult second half of the 2025/26 season in which he scored only twice after Christmas.

That patchy record has not deterred Juventus. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Turin side are “seriously considering” the forward, drawn to his six-foot-six frame and the aerial threat their box has been missing.

Napoli’s parallel move

Juventus are not the only Italian club at Newcastle’s door. Fabrizio Romano reported on 27 August that Napoli, hunting cover after Romelu Lukaku’s move to Fenerbahçe, had opened talks in the previous 24 hours.

“Napoli made contact to ask with Newcastle over last 24h to ask about Nick Woltemade availability on loan deal,” Romano wrote, adding that the Italian champions had an easier alternative in Chelsea’s Marc Guiu.

Nottingham Forest also tested Newcastle’s resolve earlier in the window and were sent away empty-handed, according to the same Gazzetta report.

The deadline squeeze

For Juventus, the pressure is a thin forward line. Dušan Vlahović left as a free agent for Beşiktaş this summer, Randal Kolo Muani was re-signed to add depth, and David’s move to Madrid is the domino everything else waits on.

Newcastle would in turn need a replacement striker within hours if they sanctioned a loan out. The Premier League window closes at 11pm local time on Tuesday, 1 September.
