Young heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma has addressed his unexpected defeat and dramatic exit from the ring on Saturday, following his IBF world title clash against Filip Hrgovic at the O2 Arena in south-east London.
As reported by GiveMeSport, Itauma, who was heavily favoured heading into the bout, was stretchered out of the arena after taking multiple blows from Hrgovic in a fight that saw the 21-year-old southpaw’s early dominance fade.
The highly anticipated contest saw Itauma start strongly, appearing to cruise through the opening rounds. However, as the fight progressed, Itauma began to show signs of fatigue, allowing the more experienced Hrgovic to gain momentum.
According to GiveMeSport’s report on the bout, the decisive moment arrived in the ninth round when Hrgovic surged forward with renewed intensity, landing a series of emphatic blows that ultimately led to Itauma’s defeat.

Following the fight, Itauma was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. GiveMeSport reported that medical assessments revealed a relatively minor injury to his leg, with the British heavyweight expected to make a full return to fitness in a relatively short timeframe.
Despite the physical setback and disappointment of suffering defeat on such a significant stage, Itauma subsequently delivered a message of resilience and insisted he would learn from the experience.

In a video statement posted on Source of Boxing and highlighted by GiveMeSport, Itauma reflected on the night’s events with a mature perspective.
“Yesterday was not my night. We attempted greatness and we just fell short to the more experienced man,” Itauma stated. “I wanna say congratulations to Filip Hrgovic on his win, and although I never reached my desired outcome, I believe I gained experience that I’ll take to my future fights.”

Itauma also extended his gratitude to his supporters and the event organisers.
“I wanna thank my fans in and outside of the arena. You guys made it a little bit more special and a little bit more electrifying than I expected. It was a f***ing good fight, and I wanna thank Queensberry and DAZN for putting this show on. So, god bless, take care and I’ll be back.”
As GiveMeSport noted, the defeat represents a significant moment in the young boxer’s career and leaves promoter Frank Warren with the task of rebuilding a fighter who had been widely regarded as one of heavyweight boxing’s most exciting emerging talents.
However, Itauma’s quick recovery and determined response suggest he has no intention of allowing the setback to define his career.
