Barcelona have their striker. Gabriel Jesus is set to undergo a medical on Monday before signing a contract until June 2028 with an option to extend further, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The financial breakdown is modest by Barcelona standards. Arsenal receive a fixed €10m (around £8.5m) with up to €4m more in add-ons, and they will keep a 20% cut of any future sale.
Romano gave his customary verdict on X.
“Barcelona agree deal to sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, here we go! Exclusive details: medical booked on Monday, #AFC to receive €10m package plus add-ons for permanent deal.”

No formal announcement has yet come from either club.
From a €52m signing to a €10m sale
Jesus arrived at the Emirates from Manchester City in July 2022 for €52.5m, Football Transfers reports. The number Barcelona are paying is a fraction of that, and the discount reflects a Brazilian who had slipped behind Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz in Mikel Arteta’s pecking order and was entering the final year of his contract.
Arsenal had put a valuation of £18-20m on him earlier in the summer, AFTV reported. The eventual package is closer to half of that in guaranteed money, but the sell-on stake gives them upside if he rediscovers his form in Spain.
Plan B after the Alvarez pursuit collapsed
Barcelona’s summer had been built around Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid publicly refused to negotiate, rejecting the Catalan approach outright and excluding Barcelona from the list of clubs they would deal with.

That left Hansi Flick’s champions short of a recognised number nine. Robert Lewandowski departed at the end of last season after four years and 119 goals, before a move to Chicago Fire.
Jesus is the answer Flick lands with the window running out. Low fee, contract until 2028, extension option, sell-on clause: a deal engineered for downside protection rather than a headline signing.
Medical on Monday, unveiling on Tuesday
The medical is set for Monday, 31 August, with Barcelona expected to present the player on Tuesday after their LaLiga match against Rayo Vallecano. Jesus becomes the club’s fresh option at centre-forward with his contract due to run until June 2028, and Arsenal receive €10m up front, up to €4m more in bonuses and a 20% cut of the next sale.
