The 2024 Formula 1 season was full of excitement and drama, but it also marked the departure of several iconic figures. A total of seven drivers lost their seats either midway through or at the end of the season, and we’ve looked into what the future holds for them.
Logan Sargeant – Lost his seat to Colapinto

Logan Sargeant had to say goodbye to his seat at Williams midway through the 2024 season when Franco Colapinto took over. After a series of disappointing results and inconsistent performances, it was clear that Williams wanted to take a new direction.

The former Williams driver has now found a new home in the European Le Mans Series. He will race in the LMP2 class for Genesis and IDEC Sport, joining forces with Jamie Chadwick.
After a turbulent season, Sergio Pérez lost his seat at Red Bull Racing. The team decided to bet on a younger driver, leaving Pérez without a spot for 2025.
Pérez has chosen to take a sabbatical from Formula 1. He has not announced any concrete plans to race in other series, but rumors about a possible move to American motorsport have been circulating.
Valtteri Bottas – Lost his seat at Sauber

After a pointless season, Bottas was replaced by Brazilian talent Gabriel Bortoleto. Sauber decided to focus on a new generation of drivers.
Valtteri Bottas – Reserve driver for Mercedes

Bottas will serve as a reserve driver for Mercedes in 2025. He will support the team and be ready to step in if Andrea Kimi-Antonelli fails to meet expectations.
Daniel Ricciardo – Lost his seat to Lawson

Ricciardo was replaced by Liam Lawson midway through the 2024 season. His comeback to Formula 1 was brief and disappointing.
Ricciardo has stepped away from the spotlight and is enjoying his private life. He has turned down several offers from other racing teams and is rumored to be considering a pundit role in Formula 1.
Franco Colapinto – Lost his seat at Williams

Franco Colapinto was part of Williams’ future plans but lost his seat after a season that didn’t meet expectations. However, Colapinto still has ambitions to remain in the top tier of motorsport.
