LeBron James and Kevin Hart are working towards a head-to-head golf contest that would bring together basketball, comedy and one of YouTube’s fastest-growing sporting communities.

No date or venue has been announced, but Hart has now publicly acknowledged the project and suggested that only the final details remain unresolved.

Kevin Hart confirms the match is being planned

“We’ve got a big match coming up,” Hart said in an interview with Front Office Sports Tonight, according to Front Office Sports.

Hart explained that both men want more time to improve before stepping in front of the cameras. The intention is not simply to film a casual round, but to build enough anticipation for the match to feel like a genuine event.

The actor would not reveal when it might take place. However, he said the two sides were “coming up on the finish line” in negotiations.

The planned collaboration was subsequently described by Bleacher Report as a YouTube golf showdown between two celebrities who have recently invested heavily in creating content around the sport.

Both stars are still learning the game

Part of the appeal is that neither James nor Hart is presenting himself as an accomplished golfer. Both are relatively new to the game and have used their YouTube channels to document the frustrations and small improvements that come with learning it.

James began playing more seriously several years ago and has frequently shared footage from the course on social media. His dedicated golf channel has since passed 600,000 subscribers and accumulated more than five million views across 18 videos.

His first major golf video featured former teammates from the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 2016 NBA championship team. James has since uploaded further videos documenting his attempts to improve and compete against friends.

Hart launched his own golf-focused channel more recently. It has already attracted approximately 82,000 subscribers and nearly three million views across six videos.

The comedian has also introduced a golf clothing collection with Fabletics, placing the sport at the centre of both his online content and his commercial work.

Their lack of experience could be the selling point

Celebrity golf events are nothing new, but the planned match between James and Hart would be different from exhibitions built around established professionals. The attraction would come from watching two fiercely competitive personalities attempt to master a sport that neither can control.

James has previously spoken openly about the difficulty of golf and the appeal of being placed outside his comfort zone. Hart has approached the sport in a similar way, using his videos to show both his mistakes and gradual progress.

That gives the potential match a simple narrative. Two globally recognised figures are learning the same unforgiving game, and neither wants to lose to the other once the cameras begin rolling.

Hart said they want viewers to tune in, but both men first need enough “space to get better.” That suggests the contest will not be staged immediately, even if the commercial negotiations are nearing completion.

YouTube golf continues to attract major names

Golf content has grown significantly on YouTube, where creators have made the sport feel less formal and more accessible. Matches built around personalities, challenges and friendly rivalries can attract audiences far beyond traditional golf coverage.

James and Hart bring a different level of recognition. James is one of the most prominent athletes of his generation, while Hart has built an international career across comedy, film and television.

Their friendship should also provide the contest with the kind of trash talk and competitive tension required to hold an audience over an entire round.

The final format, location and release date remain unknown. Yet Hart’s comments make one point clear: the match is no longer just an idea, and an announcement could be approaching.
