The recruitment team at Old Trafford is running two files in parallel, TEAMtalk report. One is a retention push around prized academy forward JJ Gabriel. The other is a contingency list of teenagers Manchester United could pursue if he leaves, and Mesloub is on it.
He is not a household name yet. He is 16, and he plays as an inverted right winger for RC Lens.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and RB Leipzig are tracking him too.
FIFA rules push any move to 2028
The English pursuit runs straight into a wall. TEAMtalk write that “the Lens star does not turn 18 until late 2027, meaning an international move to England would not be straightforward and, under the relevant FIFA regulations, he could not move to an English club until 2028 at the earliest unless an applicable exception were to arise.”

The rule gives Ligue 1 a clear edge. PSG and Monaco can bid now. United, Arsenal and Chelsea can only watch.
A five-second Ligue 1 debut
The reason so many scouts have opened files on Mesloub is a single afternoon in Nantes.
He came off the bench for Lens in May 2026 and scored within five seconds of being introduced, a strike that sealed a 1-0 win and helped send Lens into the Champions League, Sports Mole reported. On 10 September he set up Florian Thauvin’s late equaliser in a 3-2 win away to Slavia Prague, becoming the youngest player in Lens’s Champions League history.
He is French-born, Algerian through his father and Portuguese through his mother. Caught Offside note he “has been called into Portugal’s Under-21 squad despite being only 16, having previously represented their U16 and U17 sides.”

The JJ Gabriel question
The Mesloub file only opened because of Gabriel. TEAMtalk report Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea are all battling for the 15-year-old academy forward, and United’s response is a mixture of persuasion and preparation.
Caught Offside report that “the club are still trying to convince Gabriel to remain at Old Trafford, with chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox reportedly involved in those efforts.”
Michael Carrick was handed the manager’s job permanently after guiding United to third in 2025/26, per the Premier League. Deepening the teenage-talent pipeline is one of the tasks his recruitment staff has been asked to accelerate.
No transfer fee has been floated, and no move can happen for at least two years. TEAMtalk is the only outlet describing United’s interest as active tracking; every subsequent report circles back to Graeme Bailey’s byline.
