The most valuable job description in American sport had a rotten weekend. Two of the league’s most-watched young quarterbacks, Chicago’s Caleb Williams and Washington’s Jayden Daniels, walked off in visible pain. Neither will have a clear timeline until further imaging on Monday.
Williams grabbed his right hamstring while scrambling on first-and-goal at Soldier Field, then left the field on a cart as Chicago slumped to a 9-3 home defeat by Minnesota. Head coach Ben Johnson said the No. 1 pick from 2024 walked into the locker room without crutches and was in “good spirits.”
“I’m actually happy it’s nothing with the knee,” Johnson said. “The hamstring could be pretty damaging as well. We’ll see how bad it is tomorrow.”
Daniels’s injury looked worse in real time. On the last play of the first half at AT&T Stadium, the second-year quarterback stumbled after a teammate stepped on his foot, reached out to break his fall and popped his left elbow, the same joint that ended his 2025 season. X-rays were negative for fractures and head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the dislocation after Washington’s 37-20 defeat.

Chiefs edge Colts 33-30 in overtime
Kansas City is 2-0, and it did not need any new tricks to get there. Mahomes, back from a torn ACL, threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns, Kenneth Walker III added 117 on the ground, and Harrison Butker’s 40-yard field goal as time expired in overtime finished off a 33-30 win over Indianapolis on Sunday night.
Travis Kelce caught nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Bears’ 59 points become three
Chicago put 59 on the board in Week 1. Seven days later they managed three, in a rain-soaked 9-3 loss to the Vikings that dropped Ben Johnson’s team to 1-1. Backup Tyson Bagent almost dragged Chicago into range on the final drive before being sacked on fourth down inside the red zone.
Prescott past Romo in Dallas
The 37-20 Cowboys win that put Daniels on the sideline also handed Dak Prescott a personal marker. A 24-yard scoring pass to CeeDee Lamb in the fourth quarter gave him his 249th career touchdown pass, past Tony Romo’s franchise record. Prescott finished 26 of 31 for 279 yards and four scores. Lamb had eight catches for 153 yards.

Purdy 20 of 22 as 49ers move to 2-0
San Francisco followed up its Week 1 win over the Rams in Australia by burying Miami 35-13 at Levi’s Stadium. Brock Purdy went 20 of 22 for 287 yards and two passing touchdowns, completing 18 straight at one point, while Christian McCaffrey ran in a pair of 1-yard touchdowns to reach 100 for his career, the fourth-fastest to that mark in the Super Bowl era. The 49ers are 2-0.
