Jonas Urbig will take his place in the Germany goal for the first time in Munich on Thursday night, part of a near wholesale change to the squad Jürgen Klopp used for his opening two matches in charge.
Germany have one point from those two Nations League fixtures, a 1-1 draw at home to the Netherlands and a 1-0 loss to Greece, and sit third in Group A2 behind both of them. Serbia visit Munich with no points at all.
Klopp has been clear about what the visitors bring.
“What makes Serbia particularly difficult is their experience. They’re very streetwise, and we have to be prepared for that. They have a special mentality,” he told reporters at a pre-match press conference, according to Bundesliga.com.

New faces, old absences
The team sheet is unrecognisable from the one Klopp started the window with. Nico Schlotterbeck is sidelined by ankle ligament damage, Kai Havertz has not recovered from a muscle problem picked up against the Dutch, and Jamal Musiala tore a thigh muscle in the warm-up before that same fixture.
Urbig, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper, is one of several players stepping up. Klopp named a 44-man pool for this international window on 17 September, including 11 first-time senior internationals and 20 extra call-ups brought in for the Serbia and Greece legs, per Get German Football News.
That reshuffle is the point of the fixture as much as the result is. Klopp has spoken repeatedly about using the autumn window to widen his pool before serious knockout football returns.
From Nagelsmann’s exit to Klopp’s third match
The job became Klopp’s after Julian Nagelsmann stepped down on 3 July, days after Germany’s World Cup last-16 exit to Paraguay, as announced by FIFA. The DFB confirmed Klopp’s contract on 24 July, with his tenure officially beginning on 15 August.

“Few things can bring us Germans together like the national team. That is exactly what makes this role so special for me,” Klopp said in the DFB’s appointment announcement.
Three matches in, the togetherness is still looking for a scoreline to lift it. Greece lead Group A2 with six points, the Netherlands have four, and Germany are on one.
Kick-off at the Allianz Arena is at 8:45pm local time.
