“That blonde guy, tell him to stop with the botox, he looks like an apple.”

That line, read out by Piers Morgan on his own show, is Ronaldo’s reply to Simon Jordan after the former Crystal Palace owner branded him an arrogant sod live on Piers Morgan Uncensored. The 41-year-old did not take on Jordan’s argument. He went straight at the pundit’s face.

Morgan told viewers he had sent Ronaldo the clip of their on-air debate that same morning, and the Portugal captain had messaged back within hours.

Jordan v Morgan on Uncensored

Jordan appeared alongside Morgan on Wednesday to argue that walking out of a national team camp over playing time was arrogant, however decorated the player. Morgan took the opposite view, telling Jordan he was “proud” of Ronaldo for standing up for himself when he felt a coach had broken a promise to him.

The host has pushed the forward’s side of the story for days, insisting the key component to Ronaldo’s make-up is “respect and honesty” rather than money, fame or ego.

The Norway walkout

The captain walked out of Portugal’s training camp ahead of the Denmark match on Thursday 1 October over a reported dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus.

In an Instagram post, he said he would “tell the Portuguese people the truth about the reasons behind my departure” at a later time, and wished “good luck to Portugal and to all my teammates, without exception.”

The flashpoint had come four days earlier, in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway. Ronaldo was warmed up repeatedly on the touchline but stayed on the bench as an unused substitute.

“I planned to use him, but the circumstances weren’t right for him to be introduced during that game,” Jesus later told reporters.

According to Morgan, the two had met in August and agreed Ronaldo would feature against Norway, with Jesus promising to publicly own the mistake if that promise was broken. When no such acknowledgment came, Ronaldo left.

Jesus leaves the door open

Jesus was appointed on a four-year contract in July 2026, after Portugal’s exit from the World Cup. He and Ronaldo had previously worked together for a season at Al Nassr.

Portugal have not missed their captain on the pitch. The team booked their Nations League quarter-final spot with a second win over Norway, and Jesus has said the forward is welcome back if he wants it.

“If he wants to, he’ll return to the national team. We can talk before the next call-up, but Cris is the one who’s going to decide,” Jesus said.

Portugal’s next international window is in November 2026.
