Harry Kane shook hands on a fresh Bayern deal less than a week ago. One former Old Trafford striker is not ready to let that settle anything.

Dion Dublin, speaking to BetVictor, said Manchester United should still make a move for the England captain and that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe should not be put off by the Allianz Arena extension. The verbatim quotes were relayed by Brit Brief.

“If you want him, go get him. Even if he signs a new deal there, give them the 70 or 80 million, whatever they want, because you’ve got to get goals.”

He thinks Kane, 33, would walk into any team in England right now, and he does not see the striker’s age slowing him down for the length of a short contract.

“Even at 33, 34, 35, I’d still nick Harry for a year or two because he just finds his way into good positions.”

“Harry Kane could start in any Premier League side. Any Premier League side, it doesn’t matter.”

What Bayern just agreed

Kane’s in-principle agreement with Bayern was reported on 5 October, with salary terms set and only the final details to be ironed out. His existing contract was due to run out in summer 2027.

The new deal is understood to run for two and a half years and would keep him in Munich until 2029, according to reporting of the agreement. Barcelona had been chasing a free transfer in 2027 and are now out of the running.

Kane scored 36 Bundesliga goals in 2025/26 to be crowned top scorer for a third consecutive season, ending the campaign with 58 for Bayern across all competitions.

Dublin’s shortlist of guaranteed scorers

Dublin frames his argument around a very narrow list of players he believes can be relied on for goals at the top level, and the England captain is on it.

“Who can you guarantee for goals? Haaland, Kane, Lewandowski, Mbappe, and then you start to struggle a bit for guaranteed scorers.”

“Harry Kane guarantees you goals.”

Ratcliffe has long been linked with an interest in signing Kane, and Dublin’s view is that a new Bayern contract should not change the calculus. Even if the extension removes a potential free transfer in summer 2027, Dublin wants INEOS to pay whatever fee is required to bring him to Old Trafford.
