Barcelona have never opened a La Liga season this well. Hansi Flick’s side came back to training this week still perfect after seven matches, top of the table with 21 points, 31 goals scored and a +24 goal difference.
The club’s old benchmark was six straight wins to open a season, set in 1929/30, 1960/61 and 2018/19 and never carried into a seventh. Barcelona’s 31 goals through the opening seven rounds are the second-highest total in La Liga history, behind only Sevilla’s 1940/41 side.
Lamine Yamal has driven much of the attack, with seven league goals and four assists in those seven matches. Flick spoke about his age at Friday’s pre-match press conference.
“Lamine is 19 years old, we mustn’t forget that. He’ll be the best in the world,” Flick said.

Raphinha out, Jesus to start
Raphinha, Barcelona’s leading scorer, is unavailable on Saturday with a muscle problem.
“He doesn’t have a serious injury. He had too many injuries last season, and we have to be careful. He won’t play tomorrow,” Flick said.
Gabriel Jesus is set to lead the attack in his place.
“The idea is for him to start tomorrow. He’s improved a lot and fits our style,” the manager said.

Frenkie de Jong is expected back for the following league trip to Real Betis. Flick accepts the demands of the schedule.
“It’s part of our job. I can’t change it. We have to be prepared for the upcoming matches,” he said.
After Getafe at Camp Nou, Barcelona travel to Istanbul to face Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday at RAMS Park, matchday two of the league phase.
Madrid six points back before the Clásico
Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid come into the weekend fourth in La Liga with 15 points from a 5W/0D/2L start, behind Atlético Madrid and Real Betis on 16 points apiece. They host Villarreal on Saturday knowing another dropped result would push Barcelona further away before the sides meet at Camp Nou.
