Real Madrid are not shopping for a goalkeeper. According to a report from Madrid Universal citing Fabrizio Romano, agents put two separate goalkeepers in front of the club during the summer transfer window and received the same answer both times: the position is not open.
The report lands as Courtois closes in on an extension. Real Madrid and the Belgian have reached an agreement in principle on a one-year renewal that pushes his deal through to June 2028, with the existing contract set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season.
“The club consider Courtois a key player, top in the world, and the new deal will be signed soon after the verbal agreement,” Romano wrote.
Mourinho: ‘the best goalkeeper in the world’
The decision to stand by Courtois has been reinforced by his form under José Mourinho. The goalkeeper has made nine appearances in all competitions this season, including seven saves in a 2-1 Champions League win over Inter and a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory against Villarreal.

“I’m not surprised, because he was my player. He is the best goalkeeper in the world,” Mourinho said.
The renewal is for a single additional year, with the club set to reassess annually. Courtois has missed 32 matches for Madrid and Belgium since returning from his knee injury.
Camp Nou Clásico on 25 October
The vote of confidence arrives before a demanding stretch. Real Madrid travel to Camp Nou on 25 October for the first Clásico of the season, with kick-off at 9pm local time.
Courtois himself has made clear he is not planning to slow down. In recent remarks picked up by Madrid Universal, the goalkeeper said he wants to play for roughly five more years.

The two rejected offers are not identified in Romano’s report, and the club has not commented publicly on either approach. The new contract is yet to be signed, but Romano has described the verbal agreement as settled, with paperwork to follow.
