Jake Paul walked onto a Donald Trump stage on Monday with a MAGA hat, a crowd of thousands and his mother in the room. He walked off to a social media kicking.
The 12 October midterm rally at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, Ohio, was supposed to be a hometown moment for a Cleveland native. Instead, the online verdict was swift and unforgiving, with one widely shared reply reading simply: “That sh*t sounds rehearsed asf.”
Another jab stung sharper: “The guy who moved out of the country to avoid paying taxes?” That was a reference to reports that Jake and Logan Paul relocated to Puerto Rico in 2021, a move widely linked to the territory’s tax breaks. “THE CTE IS REAL” and “Never did a day of work in his life” ran alongside it.
“Twitter fingers never built the country”
Paul leaned into culture-war register from the start.

“I get confused by the left, the protesters. Do they not have jobs? That’s all they do is carry signs around while we’re doing the work,” he told the crowd.
The pause for applause did not land as planned.
He pressed on with a line that read better on paper than in the hall.
“Twitter fingers never built the country, hate has never built the country, and the woke socialist movement that we face has never built a country.”

A boxing metaphor followed, aimed at the people watching from outside the arena.
“You can watch from the cheap seats like the left, or lace up and fight for what’s right.”
His appearance was pitched as a hometown turn, with his mother Pam Stepnick in attendance and Senator Jon Husted among the rally’s political cast.
Trump: “You have to be a little bit careful with Jake”
The president’s own review was more surprised than scripted.
“I was very impressed… You have to be a little bit careful with Jake. I didn’t know exactly what the hell he was going to say!” Trump told the room.
He went on to float the idea that Paul could run for office someday, a prediction that only accelerated the online reaction.
Back to the ring, if he can get there
The ridicule hit while Paul is trying to rebuild on his own terrain. His last appearance in the ring, on 19 December 2025 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, ended with Anthony Joshua stopping him in the sixth round and leaving him with a broken jaw.
That defeat dropped his professional record to 12-2 with seven knockouts. The 29-year-old has since been cleared to resume training, and his team has signalled a return in the second half of 2026, with a rematch against Tommy Fury floated as the preferred option.
