Vinicius Jr’s new Real Madrid contract pushes his weekly pay to around €470,000 and keeps his €1 billion release clause intact until June 2032. The deal was confirmed by the club on 6 August, with Real Madrid describing the Brazilian forward as “one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history”.

Spanish and international reporting put the annual salary at €24-25 million, up from a previous €17.5m. In sterling, that is just over £400,000 a week.

How Madrid’s offer moved toward €25m

Madrid’s opening offer was around €22 million a year, which Vinicius’ camp turned down. The player had been pushing for closer to €30m. His previous deal was due to run out in June 2027, a date that would have opened the door to foreign clubs from January 2027 and triggered another round of bidding.

Arsenal had been watching. ESPN reported that Madrid “were open to a departure this summer if no agreement was reached on an extension, with interest from Premier League champions Arsenal”. The new terms shut that door for six seasons.

A clause that is not meant to be paid

The €1 billion buyout stays, with multiple outlets, including Outlook India, confirming the figure is unchanged. At that level the clause is a wall more than a price tag, built so no rival club can simply walk into the Bernabeu and buy the player over the counter. Any exit has to be negotiated.

The red card that could cost him the Clasico

Vinicius was sent off in the 73rd minute of Madrid’s 1-0 win over Villarreal on 10 October after pulling the hair of Nathan Saliba. Referee Isidro Díaz de Mera’s report, cited by Al Jazeera, says the Brazilian continued to protest after being dismissed and had to be restrained by team-mates as he moved towards the official in an aggressive manner.

The RFEF’s disciplinary committee has not yet ruled. Spanish reporting points to a ban of two to four matches, with a two-match minimum under the violent-conduct rule and additional games possible for the post-dismissal protest. Madrid are reportedly braced for a three-match sanction and plan to appeal in order to trim it to two.

A ban of two matches or more would rule Vinicius out of the trip to Barcelona on 25 October.

He has already apologised. On Instagram, he wrote: “Sorry to my team and the fans.”

The committee’s decision is expected this week.
