Two matchdays into the 2026-27 Champions League league phase, nine clubs still have maximum points and nine are still searching for their first. The expanded 36-team format is producing a sharp early separation at the top and the bottom of the one-group table.

Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 win at the Etihad on Wednesday pulled them level with Barcelona and Aston Villa at the summit. Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Vitinha and Maghnes Akliouche all scored for the holders before Erling Haaland pulled two back for Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City, according to Al Jazeera.

Barcelona had already thumped Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul the night before, and Aston Villa added a 6-0 home win over Fenerbahçe on Wednesday to join them on six points. VfB Stuttgart, Liverpool, Sporting CP, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Real Betis are also perfect, the ESPN table shows.

The shock at Aspmyra

Bodø/Glimt beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 at Aspmyra Stadion on Wednesday night, per a VAVEL match report. Fredrik Sjøvold scored the only goal in the 52nd minute, converting a cross from Sondre Auklend. Dortmund had opened the league phase with a 3-2 win over Villarreal and drop into mid-table with three points.

Inter already under water

Inter sit 29th of 36 with no points. Cristian Chivu’s side lost 2-1 at Real Madrid on the opening matchday and were then beaten 4-3 at home by Club Brugge on Tuesday, a seven-goal San Siro game that leaves the Nerazzurri with the hardest early climb of any of the traditional heavyweights.

Chivu took responsibility afterwards.

“I cannot be satisfied with the number of goals we conceded,” the Inter head coach told the club’s official channel.

He said Inter had six league-phase games left to turn things around.

Napoli, FC Porto, Slavia Prague, LASK, Lille, Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Slovan Bratislava also sit on zero points. The Slovak side, bottom of the table, have conceded eight goals and scored none across their two defeats.

What matchday 3 brings

Matchday 3 is played on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 October, the UEFA fixture-by-team guide confirms. Only the top eight after the eight-round league phase qualify directly for the round of 16; teams ranked ninth to 24th enter a knockout playoff round, and anyone below 24th is out of Europe entirely.
