Bruno Fernandes has turned down Manchester United’s latest contract offer and would like to leave the club in January, according to reporting carried by CaughtOffside citing the Turkish outlet Fanatik. The 32-year-old Portuguese is said to be frustrated with the club’s direction and is no longer convinced by its ambitions.
Where he goes if he does leave is suddenly a two-horse race. Galatasaray have been circling since the summer, and Barcelona have now been added to the picture.
Galatasaray’s summer package, revived
The Turkish champions were ready to spend heavily on Fernandes in the last window. TeamTalk, citing The Telegraph’s James Ducker and reporter Ben Jacobs, reported in August that Galatasaray had assembled a €50m bid along with a four-year contract worth €21m net a year and a €4m signing-on bonus. Turkiye Today reported the same figures, with club president Dursun Ozbek described as determined to get the deal done.
Nothing moved in the summer. United were, in Ducker’s words, “firmly opposed” to a sale, and Jacobs reported sources describing the captain as “not for sale at any price.” The €65m release clause that had been in Fernandes’ contract for overseas clubs had already expired, meaning Galatasaray would have to negotiate.

That pursuit is now back on. OneFootball reported earlier this month that head coach Okan Buruk and the Galatasaray hierarchy have made Fernandes their priority target for January, with his current valuation put at around €35m.
Barcelona enter the picture
Barcelona’s angle is sporting rather than financial. The Catalans are monitoring Fernandes as a player who could compete for major titles and feature in the Champions League, something United cannot currently offer him. The Fanatik report, picked up by several outlets over the weekend, framed Barcelona as a serious rival to Galatasaray rather than a side-interest.
The Peoples Person, which also carried the story on 17 October, rated the Turkish report’s credibility at five out of ten and called much of it speculation. That is worth keeping in mind: No bid has been lodged, no public confirmation from any club, and no public statement from Fernandes himself.
United’s position looks thinner than they say
The club line has been consistent. Fabrizio Romano, speaking in August, stressed via Football365 that this was not a hard rejection but a negotiation that was still live.

“It’s not about rejecting a contract. It’s about negotiating. That’s different,” Romano said at the time.
“There is a negotiation, there is a conversation. Let’s see how it goes.”
United’s offer reportedly amounted to only €500,000 more a year, which is why the player’s camp pushed back. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2027, with a one-year club option, meaning the Red Devils still have cover for the time being. If no extension is signed before January, however, every month that passes brings a free transfer closer.
