Ángel Torres opened the door to one of the most unlikely signings La Liga could see this season. The Getafe president confirmed on Sunday that he has spoken directly with René Ramos, the brother and agent of 40-year-old Sergio Ramos, about the free-agent defender.
“His agent, his brother, has been speaking with me,” Torres told the Tablero Deportivo programme on Radio Nacional de España.
Ramos is on the club’s radar as a long-standing candidate, even if the squad shape makes an immediate deal difficult.
“He could come, because it is something we have been looking into for some time,” Torres said. “He is on the list of potential signings.”

The Carvajal reunion, not a Real Madrid one
The hook that has pulled this story onto front pages is a dressing-room one. Dani Carvajal, Ramos’s former Real Madrid team-mate, recently joined Getafe, and a Ramos arrival would reunite two defenders who played 236 matches together across Real Madrid and Spain.
A return to the Santiago Bernabéu has not been part of the current conversation. Getafe is the Madrid club at the table.
Why Bordalás is not pushing for it now
Getafe already carry six central defenders in their squad, and Bordalás has told the president that strengthening the flanks matters more than adding another centre-back. Torres was candid about the mismatch between the squad’s needs and the odds of landing Ramos.
“We have six centre-backs. It’s not a position we need to strengthen right now,” Torres said. “The coach wanted players out wide. But it’s still not too late.”

Free agent since Monterrey
Ramos has been without a club since leaving Mexican side Monterrey at the end of 2025. Spanish press reports describe him as being in excellent physical condition and keen on a last run in European football.
Getafe would be free to sign him at any time outside the usual transfer-window rules. If the club move one of their centre-backs on in January, Torres suggested, the conversation with Ramos’s representatives could pick up again.
