The man San Francisco prosecutors say pulled the trigger on 49ers defensive end Keion White is being pushed into pre-trial detention without bail. Gregory Walker, 36, of Mountain House, California, was arrested on 9 October in the Los Angeles area and charged with assault with a semi-automatic firearm, with an allegation that he personally discharged the weapon and inflicted great bodily injury. He also faces counts tied to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

District Attorney Brooke Jenkins’ office has said it will move to detain Walker without bail because of the public safety risk he is said to pose.

The shooting happened just after 4 a.m. on 9 February at Dahlia, a nightclub in the Mission District, where White was hosting a private party after attending the Super Bowl earlier in the day. Police Chief Derrick Lew said the gunfire followed a confrontation inside the venue.

“It started when multiple suspects, some brandishing firearms, confronted the 49ers player, which then led to a physical altercation between the group and the victim, who was shot in the leg,” Lew said.

Operation D-Line and three other suspects

The arrests are the result of a months-long investigation the San Francisco Police Department named Operation D-Line, carried out with the Atlanta Police Department, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, Irvine Police and the Los Angeles Police Department.

Three other men were taken into custody on 7 October:

  • Marquis Davis, 38, of Atlanta, booked into Fulton County Jail on an outstanding California warrant alongside multiple counts of trafficking controlled substances, gang-related offences and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Atlanta officers seized an illegal firearm, 3,842 grams of fentanyl, 1,026 grams of methamphetamine, 979 grams of cocaine, 820 grams of MDMA and 59 pounds of marijuana at addresses linked to him.
  • Antoine Washington, 36, of Stockton, California, picked up by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. A loaded firearm, more than 120 oxycodone pills and nearly $7,000 in cash were recovered during the search.
  • Curtis Green, 35, of Irvine, California, charged only with misdemeanours: brandishing a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a loaded firearm in public.

Investigators used video footage from the club and witness accounts to identify the men.

“We are actively pursuing evidence to continue to clarify the motivations behind this violent incident and to hold those responsible accountable for their actions,” Lew said.

White is back on the field

White, 27, broke the talus bone in his ankle in the attack and underwent surgery at a San Francisco hospital. He has said he did not realise he had been shot for the first few minutes.

The defensive end has appeared in all five games of the 2026 regular season for the 5-0 49ers, totalling three sacks. Walker and Green were booked into San Francisco County Jail on 12 October and arraigned the following Wednesday, while Davis and Washington remain in local custody pending extradition to California.
