Spain’s anti-violence authority has officially designated the first Clasico of the season as a high-risk fixture, with the Permanent Committee of Spain’s State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport flagging Sunday’s meeting between Barcelona and Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou.
The label forces an upgraded security operation around the stadium. A reinforced police presence is expected before kick-off, throughout the game and after the final whistle, with additional specialist units deployed inside and outside Camp Nou.
In practice, that means stepped-up crowd management on the perimeter, extra officers at the gates and co-ordinated monitoring of potential flashpoints among supporters.
Vinicius ban hangs over the fixture
The classification follows Vinicius Jr.’s sending-off against Villarreal on 10 October. The Brazilian pulled Nathan Saliba’s hair during a build-up he thought had ended with his own goal, before VAR intervened. Referee Isidro Diaz de Mera overturned the goal, showed the red card and triggered a furious reaction on the pitch.

Spain’s disciplinary committee has handed Vinicius a four-match ban: two games for the hair-pull and two more for his protests. He will miss the Clasico.
“Sorry to the team and the fans,” Vinicius wrote on social media.
Negreira case and a refereeing row at boiling point
The relationship between the two clubs has deteriorated sharply over the Negreira case, with Real Madrid pushing for sanctions against Barcelona. Barcelona has filed legal action in response against Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez over summer press-conference remarks.
Real Madrid manager José Mourinho, appointed on 11 June on a three-year contract, has criticized Barcelona over the Negreira file in recent weeks. The club has also complained about an unpunished challenge by Kang-in Lee on Fede Valverde in the Madrid derby, a game Real Madrid lost.

Ballon d’Or ceremony falls the next day
The match sits one day before the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, scheduled for 26 October at the London Palladium.
Kick-off is at 9pm local time at Spotify Camp Nou, as FC Barcelona has confirmed.
