Karolina Muchova has qualified for the WTA Finals for the first time at the age of 30. The Czech was already in Beijing, watching the race for the last two spots play out from a distance, when the door swung open.

Swiatek withdrew from the Ningbo Open on October 20 with a left thigh injury and ended her 2026 season.

“I’ve been experiencing an ongoing problem with my left thigh over the past weeks,” Swiatek said. “I’ve decided to end my season here, which means I won’t be playing any more tournaments this year.”

Marta Kostyuk, the other player still in contention, retired from her Ningbo match the same week, which left the eighth place to Muchova.

Muchova, world No. 7, carries a 40-11 record and two tour titles into Indian Wells, together with a run to this year’s Wimbledon final. She last qualified for the Finals in 2023 but had to withdraw before the tournament began with an injury. This time she is in.

Rybakina leads the eight into Indian Wells

The 2026 WTA Finals is played at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California from November 8 to 15. The complete singles field, with records and 2026 highlights from the WTA:

  1. Elena Rybakina (world No. 1): 49-14, Australian Open and US Open champion, three titles
  2. Aryna Sabalenka: 47-10, three titles
  3. Mirra Andreeva: 50-16, French Open champion, three titles
  4. Jessica Pegula: 50-13, two titles
  5. Coco Gauff: 47-15, one title

Rybakina took the Australian Open in January and the US Open in September, where she beat Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium to climb to world No. 1. She is the defending WTA Finals champion.

Mirra Andreeva took Roland Garros in June. She beat Maja Chwalińska 6-3, 6-2 in the final and, at 19 years and 39 days, became the youngest French Open champion since Monica Seles in 1992.

Linda Noskova produced the summer’s defining run on grass. The 21-year-old Czech saved a match point against Sorana Cîrstea in the third round and went on to beat Muchova in an all-Czech final, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, on July 11. She was the youngest Wimbledon women’s champion since Petra Kvitová in 2011.

The two Czechs will now once again share a locker room, but after their Wimbledon showdown, the roles may be reversed from that night in Indian Wells.

Andreeva has told the WTA what she thinks it takes at this level. “150 percent of your focus” is her price for a title at the Finals.
