Australian Athletics imposed a provisional ban on Jake Doran the same day his charge was made public, barring the 26-year-old from club events, member association meets and all athletics training.

Doran, who lives on Magnetic Island off Townsville in Queensland, was arrested by Queensland Police on October 13 and charged with one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16, according to Guardian Australia reporting carried on the Preda Foundation website. The investigation covered alleged conduct between January 2025 and September 2026. He was granted bail by police.

The governing body kept its statement brief.

“The safety and wellbeing of all participants in our sport is paramount, and we take all allegations of this nature very seriously.”

Australian Athletics also noted that Doran holds no paid or unpaid role within the organisation, ABC News reports. His social media accounts and LinkedIn profile have since been deactivated.

A 10.15 PB and two Worlds appearances

Doran is Australia’s equal ninth-fastest man over 100 metres, with a personal best of 10.15 seconds. He reached the semifinal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and represented Australia at two World Championships.

He has won two national titles: the 2022 national 100m crown, in a wind-assisted 10.05 ahead of Eddie Nketia, and the 2023 national 200m title. He has not run a 100m time quicker than 10.39 seconds since 2023, the same report notes.

Outside the track, Doran works in business development at TAFE Queensland and has been training athletes in Townsville.

Alleged conduct window spans nearly two years

The investigation covers alleged conduct between January 2025 and September 2026, a window overlapping the end of Doran’s competitive peak. The AFP wire, carried by Free Malaysia Today, reports the provisional suspension bars him from any club, member association or Australian Athletics event, as well as from training.

Doran is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on November 5.
