Harry Kane is 47 Premier League goals short of Alan Shearer, and he is in no rush to come back and close the gap. A day after collecting the 2026 Ballon d’Or in London, the Bayern Munich striker made clear his focus remains firmly in Germany.

Kane became the first Englishman to win the award in 25 years when he beat Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal to it on Monday 26 October at the London Palladium. The 2025/26 season behind him had produced 73 goals across all competitions for Bayern and England, a tally the Football Association called the biggest reason he beat the Spaniard and the Frenchman to the trophy.

Asked by Goal whether a return to England to chase Shearer was on his mind, Kane did not sound tempted.

“Not at the moment, not right now. I’m loving life in Munich,” he told Goal.

213 to 260, and no plan to close it

Shearer scored 260 Premier League goals for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United and has sat at the top of the competition’s all-time list since his retirement in 2006. Kane left Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 on 213 league goals, meaning a return would require him to produce another 48 just to go one clear.

The 33-year-old is instead looking at the trophies that have escaped him.

“The Champions League, at club level, and to win a major trophy with England, it’s my number one priority for sure,” Kane told Goal.

A Tottenham clause Bayern want to strip out

Kane’s current Bayern deal runs until 2027, and Sports Mole reported in mid-October that an extension until the summer of 2029 has been agreed in principle. The sticking point in talks has been reported as a Premier League return clause and a matching right for Tottenham that would allow his former club to counter any offer Bayern were prepared to accept.

According to Yahoo, Fabrizio Romano, who first reported the Tottenham matching right, has said the final details are being worked through.

“It’s about the length of the contract, how many years, how to sort that clause Harry Kane had in his contract for a Premier League return, for Tottenham matching rights. I think it’s happening. It’s very close,” Romano said in the same Yahoo report.

Bayern supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was quoted in the same piece saying he was “optimistic that they will find a good solution”.

The version of the deal Bayern are pushing for would keep Kane in Munich until the summer of 2029.
