The 30-year-old forward was taken to Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and admitted to intensive care. CD Tenerife, in a statement issued on Monday evening, said De Miguel was “stable within the severity of his condition”.
The incident happened in the 108th minute at Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, deep in added time of a fixture that had been rescheduled after heavy rain forced a postponement from the previous matchday. Owono rushed several metres out of his area to challenge for the ball and struck the Madrid-born striker in the head and chest region as the pair collided. De Miguel went down and did not get back up; medical staff raced onto the pitch while players from both sides were visibly distressed, several in tears.
Resuscitated in the ambulance
De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest from the impact and only regained a pulse after CPR was administered inside the ambulance on the way to hospital, according to CD Tenerife’s medical update. He was still unconscious at the point of admission but breathing on his own.
The club has not given a prognosis and said further information would follow once doctors complete their assessments.

Red card and abandoned match
The referee showed Owono a straight red card after the collision and abandoned the fixture with the score level at 2-2. Tenerife had led 2-0 before Andorra equalised with goals in the 80th and 87th minutes. FC Andorra issued a brief statement sending “all our strength and best wishes to Jesús de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today’s match”.
Spain’s second-division competition committee is expected to rule on whether the remaining minutes of the fixture are played at a later date.
As of Monday evening, De Miguel remained in intensive care at Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, with no further medical update issued by the club.
