Fabrizio Romano reveals Liverpool’s stance on Arne Slot after Manchester City defeat

City controlled the match from start to finish in what was Pep Guardiola’s 1000th game as a manager, according to BBC Sport. Erling Haaland opened the scoring after missing an early penalty, before Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku added long-range strikes that sealed a comfortable victory for the champions.

Liverpool thought they had halved the deficit when Virgil van Dijk bundled the ball home, but the effort was ruled out after Andy Robertson was deemed to have interfered from an offside position.

The Reds did not manage a shot on target until around the 75th minute — a stark reflection of their struggles in possession and chance creation. The result leaves them eighth in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Arsenal after 11 matches.

Growing pressure on Slot

Sunday’s loss means Liverpool have now been beaten seven times in their last ten games across all competitions, a steep decline for a squad built to challenge for trophies. Frustration is mounting among supporters, amplified by chants of “sacked in the morning” from the home crowd at the Etihad.

Liverpool’s investment of around £446 million in the summer — on players such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, according to The Athletic — has only intensified scrutiny on Slot’s management.

Tactically, the side has struggled for balance between their attacking fluidity and defensive organisation. Critics point to gaps in midfield and a lack of pressing intensity that once defined the club’s style under Jürgen Klopp.

Club continues to back the manager

Despite the disappointing run, Fabrizio Romano reported on his YouTube channel (posted 10 November) that Liverpool’s leadership remains united behind Slot and has no plans to explore alternatives.

“Despite the recent good results, against Manchester City Liverpool were not performing,” Romano said. “But what we can say is that the information is very clear — Liverpool keep backing the manager Arne Slot.”

He added:

“Liverpool keep supporting the coach and believe Arne Slot is the right man for the job and the right man to fix the situation. There is full trust in Arne Slot. There is no contact with any other agent or representative of a different manager.”

The club’s stance reflects a belief that Slot’s long-term vision — built on youth integration, technical control, and aggressive pressing — will take time to embed fully.

Focus turns to the next fixtures

Slot, who signed a three-year deal in 2024 and led Liverpool to the Premier League title in his debut season, remains under contract until 2027. After the international break, Liverpool will face Nottingham Forest at Anfield on 22 November, followed by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League and a Premier League trip to West Ham.

These fixtures could be pivotal in shaping the early narrative of Slot’s second season in charge. Inside the club, there is quiet confidence that results will turn — though the coming weeks will test both the squad’s resilience and the fans’ patience.

At full-time in Manchester, the traveling Liverpool supporters applauded their team, but the mood was muted. For now, the message from the club remains clear: Arne Slot stays — and the project continues.
