Liverpool plan move for Bayern winger as Slot eyes reinforcements
Arne Slot’s title defence has begun in turbulent fashion. A 3–0 defeat at Manchester City left Liverpool eighth in the Premier League, with five losses and six wins from their opening 11 matches — eight points behind leaders Arsenal.
Despite the patchy form, Slot’s position remains stable. The Dutchman, who guided Liverpool to the 2024/25 league title, oversaw a summer outlay exceeding £420 million, adding the likes of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Armin Pecsi, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Florian Wirtz.
Even so, not all business went to plan: a proposed deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi reportedly fell through before deadline day, leaving questions about squad depth.
January market priorities
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Liverpool will return to the market in January, identifying Gnabry as a top target. The 30-year-old winger, under contract with Bayern until June 2026, is also attracting interest from Juventus.

Gnabry began his career at Arsenal before a difficult loan spell at West Bromwich Albion prompted his return to Germany. His career flourished after joining Bayern in 2017, where he’s since claimed six Bundesliga titles and a Champions League medal.
Slot and his recruitment team are said to view Gnabry as a versatile addition capable of boosting creativity and experience across Liverpool’s frontline.
Intense european competition
Reports from Italy suggest that Barcelona, Real Madrid, and other top clubs are also monitoring Gnabry’s future.
According to salary data from Capology, he earns around €362,885 (£320,824) per week, ranking among Bayern’s top earners — behind only Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer, and Joshua Kimmich. The same wage would make him Liverpool’s third-highest-paid player, behind Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

In a 2020 interview with CBS Sports, Gnabry reflected fondly on his time at Arsenal, saying the Gunners would be his “favourite” destination if he ever returned to the Premier League.
A statement of intent
For Liverpool, any renewed pursuit of Gnabry would underline Slot’s ambition to refresh the squad after a sluggish start to the campaign.
Whether Bayern are prepared to negotiate remains to be seen, but a January move for the Germany international would mark another significant step in Liverpool’s evolving rebuild.
