Jurgen Klopp returns to the sideline

Klopp left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season, closing one of the most successful chapters in the club’s history. Over nine remarkable years at Anfield, he guided the Reds to Premier League and Champions League titles and helped reestablish the club as a dominant force in Europe.

At the time of his departure, he said he had no plans to return to coaching, even as he continued to be linked with major clubs — including Barcelona. Klopp admitted he no longer had the energy for the demands of day-to-day management.

New role, familiar stage

According to Reuters and SPORTbible, Klopp didn’t disappear from the sport entirely. Earlier this year, he accepted a strategic position as Head of Global Soccer at the Red Bull Group, working behind the scenes across the company’s football network.

Now, the 58-year-old has confirmed another new chapter — this time in broadcasting. As reported by BBC Sport, Klopp will join Magenta TV as a pundit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“Back to the sideline”

Klopp announced the move in an Instagram video posted on November 12, 2025, teasing fans with the caption:

“Grass underfoot, stadium atmosphere, very close! Back to the sideline, I’m looking forward to it!”

In the clip, he reflects on how his relationship with football has changed since leaving Liverpool.

“Many of you have always known better. But I truly couldn’t envision it for myself,” he says. “Going back to the sideline? I don’t miss anything — or at least that’s what I thought. But now it’s tingling again. Grass underneath my feet. The heated atmosphere in the stadium. And I want to be really close again.”

Smiling, he adds:

“Oh? No, not as a manager. I am becoming a pundit for Magenta TV at the FIFA World Cup 2026.”

Fans were quick to react, many joking that Klopp could steal the show even without a dugout to pace in.

“See you in Mexico”

Klopp also appeared in a brief exchange with German TV presenter Johannes B. Kerner, saying:

“Hi Johannes. I’m in! See you on June 11 in Mexico! Cool sentence. Except for Indiana Jones, probably nobody can say it.”

It was a typically Klopp moment — dry humor, delivered with genuine enthusiasm.

What fans can expect

With his tactical insight, warmth, and unmistakable charisma, Klopp is likely to become one of the most recognizable faces of Magenta TV’s World Cup coverage. Having managed Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, he’ll bring valuable perspectives on Germany’s campaign (should they qualify) and England’s chances of reclaiming the world title.

And while this move doesn’t signal a return to coaching, it does show that Klopp still feels the pull of the pitch. Whether this marks his long-term shift into punditry, or simply a temporary detour — is something fans will be watching closely.
