Gabriel Jesus to leave Arsenal in January transfer?

A cloud of uncertainty has surrounded Gabriel Jesus in recent weeks, with reports hinting that Arsenal might be prepared to sell him in January. Yet the forward, recovering from a long-term injury, has offered a clear message about where he intends to be.

His comments arrive as speculation from British media outlets suggests the club could entertain offers for several players when the winter market opens.

Transfer murmurs

Reports from the Daily Mirror indicated that Arsenal have identified four footballers who could be moved on in January, placing Jesus among those potentially available.

The Daily Mail also reported that the club hoped to have the Brazilian fully fit by the new year, possibly allowing them to cash in if a strong bid emerged.

Jesus, sidelined since January after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament during an FA Cup match against Manchester United, has only recently resumed training following months of recovery. He has struggled with recurring knee issues throughout the past year.

Firm stance

Despite the ongoing rumours, the forward told Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte he has no intention of departing before the end of his deal. He acknowledged a long-term desire to return to Palmeiras but stressed that the timing is not now.

"I'm very grateful to Palmeiras, it's the club I support and I've made it clear to some players there that one day I'll come back," he said. "But not at the moment, I'm under contract with Arsenal until 2027 and my wish is to stay here.

If for any reason, both parties understand that we can't extend beyond that, at least until 2027, I'll be here."

Jesus spent four seasons with Palmeiras, rising from the academy to the senior side before leaving for Manchester City in 2017. His time there brought domestic honours, including the Brasileiro Serie A and Copa do Brasil.

Road to recovery

Speaking about his injury, Jesus told Globo Esporte that the period on the sidelines had been manageable. "As surprising as it is, mentally I have been okay," he said, adding that time with his partner and children had helped him stay grounded throughout rehabilitation.

Before the international break, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted he did not yet know when the 27-year-old would be available for selection, though Jesus has been training with the squad for two weeks. Transfermarkt currently values him at €25 million.

Arsenal return to Premier League action against Tottenham in the north London derby Sunday 23rd of November.
