Klopp decides on Liverpool return as Slot update surfaces

Sam Wallace of The Telegraph reported that Klopp is not preparing to step back into the Liverpool job despite recent speculation. Wallace wrote that the German coach remains focused on overseeing Red Bull’s global football operations, a position he formally began in January after ending his nine-year spell at Liverpool from 2015 to 2024.

Wallace also noted that although Klopp recently said a return was “theoretically” possible, nothing in his comments suggested real intent. According to the report, Klopp has already taken part in internal decisions at Red Bull, including involvement in the dismissal of Marco Rose at RB Leipzig earlier this year.

The Telegraph added that Klopp’s outlook does not guarantee complete job security for current head coach Arne Slot. Fenway Sports Group has shown in the past that it is willing to act decisively on managerial matters, although the organisation typically handles these issues differently from Red Bull.

Slot eases pressure with win at West Ham

Slot’s position was strengthened by Liverpool’s 2–0 victory at West Ham on Sunday. The result ended a run of three straight defeats and provided a steadier platform heading into the next round of fixtures.

Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo scored the goals, while Mohamed Salah, who was left on the bench for the first time in this Premier League campaign, did not make an appearance. Isak’s goal was his first in the league since completing a club-record £125 million move from Newcastle, ending a goalless stretch that covered his first five matches.

Liverpool now look ahead to consecutive league games, beginning with a home meeting against sixth-placed Sunderland on Wednesday and followed by a trip to Leeds United.

Konaté drawing interest as contract winds down

Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konaté’s future has become a subject of interest across Europe. Reporting from GIVEMESPORT’s Fabrizio Romano indicates that the French defender is unlikely to join Real Madrid but continues to attract attention from other major clubs as his contract moves toward its June expiry.

Romano said Liverpool have placed a contract extension offer on the table, although no final decision has been made.

A club navigating uncertainty on multiple fronts

Liverpool’s recent win has brought short-term relief, but larger questions remain. Slot is still working to build consistency, Klopp appears fully focused on his new role, and key players face upcoming contract decisions. For now, the club seems to be adjusting to its present challenges rather than revisiting its past.
