Thiago Silva to sign 6-month contract as he seals shock return to Europe
Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Milan are discussing a six-month deal that would reunite Silva with the club he helped guide to the 2010/11 Serie A title. During his first spell, from 2009 to 2012, he was widely seen as the anchor of Milan’s defence.
According to Fichajes, decision-makers at the club believe he could offer more than just on-field cover. Their reporting highlights his reputation for steadying younger teammates and bringing a level of professionalism that has followed him throughout his career. One line from the outlet noted that the club values both his “leadership” and his “international experience.”
A late-career spark
Silva returned to Fluminense after leaving Chelsea at the end of the 2023/24 season. His presence helped the Brazilian side avoid relegation, and the Club World Cup gave him a wider stage once again. Fluminense’s run which included a win over Inter Milan before a loss to eventual champions Chelsea prompted fresh questions about whether Silva still had one more European stint in him.
Milan, meanwhile, have dealt with defensive absences this season and are looking to reinforce as they balance a league campaign with their Coppa Italia commitments. A short-term option with Silva’s background is seen, per the same outlet, as a practical way to add depth without altering long-term plans.

One last stop in Europe?
Fichajes also reports that Silva would be open to the move. At this stage, he is not seeking a lengthy contract but rather the chance to finish his European career in a place he knows well. People at the club familiar with early conversations describe the talks as “ongoing,” though no final decision has been communicated.
Silva’s connection to Milan is longstanding. In a 2018 interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, he spoke warmly about his time at San Siro, saying: “Milan belong in my heart and they always will do. I'm a huge fan and am following everything which is going on there closely.”
