Marcus Rashford’s future shifts after Hansi Flick decision
Barcelona’s growing confidence in head coach Hansi Flick is shaping more than just the club’s long-term planning on the touchline — it is also influencing key decisions within the squad, including the future of Marcus Rashford.
The England forward arrived in Spain on loan last summer after his Manchester United career stalled, following a brief end-of-season spell at Aston Villa. The move was framed as a reset, and so far it has delivered.
Rashford has become a regular feature in Flick’s attacking rotation, operating both from the left and centrally. Across all competitions, the 27-year-old has produced seven goals and 11 assists in 23 appearances, numbers that have restored his standing at club level and reopened the door to England selection ahead of next summer’s World Cup under Thomas Tuchel.
Flick’s backing changes the picture
Flick’s impact has not gone unnoticed internally. According to BILD, via Goal, Barcelona are “preparing a concrete offer to extend Flick’s stay well beyond his current deal” until 2028 — a notable shift for a club that typically waits until the end of a season before offering new terms.

The report suggests the board view continuity under Flick as a stabilising factor, particularly given the squad’s transition phase. That stability has benefited players like Rashford, whose role has been clearly defined within Flick’s system.
Permanent move under consideration
Barcelona hold an option to sign Rashford permanently for £28 million, and Mundo Deportivo reports that the likelihood of activating that clause has “increased” in recent weeks.
However, the outlet adds that the second half of the campaign will be decisive. Rashford’s response to increased competition — especially following Raphinha’s return to full fitness — is expected to factor heavily into the club’s final decision. Despite that caveat, Mundo Deportivo notes that Rashford “has adapted very well to the club and the team” and that there is internal satisfaction with how the loan has progressed.
Player and club remain cautious
Off the pitch, Rashford has spoken openly about enjoying his time in Spain, describing the experience as “amazing” and calling the chance to play for Barcelona “a huge honour.”

From the club’s perspective, patience remains the public stance. Sporting director Deco told Cadena SER that it is “not the time to make any decision regarding Rashford’s future,” while emphasising that Barcelona are “happy with him” and value the contribution he has made so far.
With Flick’s position strengthening and Rashford continuing to deliver, the coming months look set to determine whether this temporary revival turns into a permanent chapter.
