Salah, Semenyo and a January transfer window that could explode football’s economy
A winter window under growing pressure
The January transfer window is approaching at a moment when many clubs feel forced to act rather than wait. Financial rules, title races and squad depth concerns are converging, creating conditions for a busier and more volatile mid season market than usual.
According to Goal’s analysis of the upcoming window, last winter’s spending levels may prove to be only a prelude. Several high profile players are either unsettled or approaching critical contract moments, encouraging selling clubs to consider cashing in earlier than planned.
Salah and the uncertainty at Anfield
According to Goal, Mohamed Salah’s long term future at Liverpool has become increasingly uncertain despite the forward signing a recent contract extension. Reports indicate that tension has developed between Salah and head coach Arne Slot, following reduced playing time and public remarks from the player that drew widespread attention.
Saudi Pro League clubs remain interested in Salah, and with the forward now 33, Liverpool may view January as a rare opportunity to secure a significant transfer fee. While Salah has returned to matchday squads, his situation continues to fuel speculation about a potential mid season departure.

Dortmund face a decision on Adeyemi
Borussia Dortmund may also be forced into action. According to BILD, Karim Adeyemi has informed club officials of his desire to leave, prompting interest from several European sides including Inter, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Dortmund are reported to value the Germany international at around £75m. While Adeyemi’s goal output has been inconsistent, his ability to operate across the front line keeps him firmly on recruitment shortlists as clubs seek attacking flexibility.
Premier League prices continue to rise
Midfield valuations remain a major theme. According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Nottingham Forest would demand a fee exceeding £100m for Elliot Anderson amid concrete interest from Manchester United.
Liverpool and Newcastle have also been linked with the England international, though The Telegraph reports that Forest are reluctant to sanction a mid season sale. Should multiple bidders emerge, the final price could climb even higher.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is another name attracting attention. According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have joined Liverpool in monitoring the centre back, whose contract is set to expire in the summer.
Wingers, goalkeepers and continental interest
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo has emerged as one of the most sought after attackers. According to multiple reports, several elite clubs are tracking his £65m release clause, which becomes active in January.
In Spain, Barcelona goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen appears to be surplus to requirements. According to Mundo Deportivo, clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia are exploring a potential move, while Aston Villa have made enquiries regarding his availability.
At Atletico Madrid, Conor Gallagher’s reduced role has not gone unnoticed. According to Sky Sports, a number of Premier League clubs are monitoring the midfielder, while The Guardian reports that Manchester United are considering a loan approach.

Contract tension driving January speculation
Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz could also become a headline figure. According to Tuttosport, negotiations over a new contract have stalled, with Arsenal among the clubs to have contacted his representatives.
As more players enter decisive stages of their contracts, clubs across Europe may find January less about opportunism and more about necessity.
