Snowboarder sets World Record with historic 2340 at X Games Aspen

A world record moment in Aspen

Competitive snowboarding reached a new technical benchmark at X Games Aspen 2025 when the young snowboarder Hiroto Ogiwara captured gold in Men’s Big Air. The 20 year old from Japan became the first rider to successfully land a 2340 in competition, according to Red Bull Content Pool.

The maneuver involved six and a half full rotations before landing cleanly. Neither snowboarders nor freeskiers had previously completed the trick in a judged event, placing the jump firmly in world record territory.

X Games organizers highlighted the rarity of the moment after the event, calling it something the sport had never seen before. Judges awarded the run 97.33 points, enough to secure a decisive victory.

From debutant to record holder

Although Aspen marked Ogiwara’s first appearance at the X Games, his rise did not happen overnight. According to reporting from Red Bull, he first stepped onto a snowboard alongside his parents in Japan and entered professional competitions by the age of only 12.

Rather than relying on early hype, his development followed a steady path. Strong performances at national championships and international junior contests gradually established him as one of the most technically reliable riders of his generation.

By 2022, he had added another All Japan Ski Championship title and defended his World Rookie Finals crown, results that positioned him as a contender well before his X Games breakthrough

A reputation built on technical precision

Later in 2022, Ogiwara attracted international attention at The Nines in Switzerland. There, he became the first snowboarder to land a BS Quint Coke 2160, a trick combining five vertical spins with complex off axis rotation, according to Red Bull.

That performance strengthened his reputation among judges and fellow athletes as a rider defined by control rather than risk alone. His approach emphasized consistency and rotational accuracy, qualities that would later prove decisive in Aspen.

Raising the ceiling for Big Air

Ogiwara’s world record landing does more than add another medal to his résumé. It resets expectations for Big Air competition, where incremental progression has now given way to a dramatic leap forward.

As the sport continues to evolve, the 2340 stands as a reference point for what elite competition may demand in the years and competetions ahead. For now, X Games Aspen 2025 will be remembered as the moment snowboarding’s limits were pushed higher than ever before.
