Exhausted Arsenal player sparks fan backlash after Wolves clash
By the closing stages at Molineux, Jurrien Timber looked drained.
Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Wolves may yet prove significant in the title race, but the immediate conversation among supporters centered less on the table and more on the condition of one of Mikel Arteta’s most relied-upon players.
Timber made his 37th appearance of the season on Wednesday a workload that is beginning to prompt concern. While he has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers this campaign, the sharpness that defined his early months has dulled in recent weeks.
Arsenal had started the evening with purpose. Bukayo Saka, days after committing to a new five-year contract, scored inside five minutes to end a 15-match run without a goal in all competitions. Wolves, however, refused to unravel. Their compact defensive shape limited space between the lines and prevented Arsenal from turning early control into dominance.

After Piero Hincapie doubled the visitors’ lead, the match shifted. Hugo Bueno’s curling finish revived the home side before Riccardo Calafiori’s stoppage-time own goal sealed the draw and ensured Manchester City remain within striking distance.
Timber’s individual numbers reflected a difficult outing. According to match data, he failed to complete either of his two attempted crosses and connected with just 25 percent of his long passes. He also surrendered possession 13 times. More telling than the raw figures, though, was his reduced involvement in attacking build-up compared to earlier in the season.
Supporters question rotation
Reaction on social media platform X focused heavily on fatigue. One supporter wrote: “Jurrien Timber looks completely finished. His mind and body are absolutely exhausted.”
Others suggested he appeared either tired or carrying a knock, while several posts called for him to be substituted earlier. The criticism was less about long-term ability and more about immediate workload.

Timber has contributed seven goal involvements this season and has largely kept Ben White out of the league starting XI. White has made only five Premier League appearances so far a statistic that has fueled debate about whether greater rotation is required.
A demanding schedule
Arsenal are competing across multiple fronts, and fixture congestion has intensified since the turn of the year. Arteta has previously been accused of leaning heavily on trusted starters, most notably Bukayo Saka before additional wide options were introduced.
Managing minutes over the final stretch could prove decisive. With City capable of mounting a sustained winning run, marginal physical declines even subtle ones may carry outsized consequences.
For now, Timber’s form may be less a technical issue than a physical one. The coming weeks will reveal whether rest, rotation or simple resilience defines the next phase of Arsenal’s campaign.
