Spurs scout spotted as Palestra denied in Serie A showdown

Tottenham Hotspur sent a representative to watch Marco Palestra during Cagliari’s 0,0 draw against Lazio in Serie A, according to a report by Italian journalist Nico Schira, relayed by Transfer News Live.

The reported scouting visit took place at Unipol Domus, where the 20 year old wing back featured for Cagliari in a tightly contested match. Palestra believed he had given the home side the lead, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside following a review of the build up.

Palestra is spending the season on loan at Cagliari from Atalanta, continuing his development with regular top flight minutes. While there has been no confirmation of formal talks, the presence of a Tottenham Hotspur scout suggests the Premier League club is monitoring his progress.

Player role and development

Born on March 3, 2005, Marco Palestra has primarily operated as a right wing back during his loan spell. He has also been deployed deeper in a traditional right back role when required.

At Cagliari, his responsibilities have included providing width in transition and supporting defensive phases along the flank. Coaches have trusted him with consistent minutes, reflecting his growing tactical maturity at senior level.

Like many young defenders adapting to Serie A, physical duels and final third efficiency remain areas of ongoing development. Even so, his availability and positional flexibility have made him a regular selection option.

Season contribution at Cagliari

As of February 23, 2026, Palestra has made 25 Serie A appearances for Cagliari this season, totaling 2,152 minutes. He has recorded one goal and four assists, along with two yellow cards.

Those numbers underline his steady involvement in Claudio Ranieri’s squad rotation, even if headline moments have been limited. The disallowed strike against Lazio would have added to that tally.

Tottenham’s scouting focus in Italy

Tottenham Hotspur have continued to track emerging players across European leagues in recent seasons, particularly those gaining early exposure to senior football. According to Nico Schira, the club’s latest scouting visit indicates continued interest in assessing options outside England.

For now, there is no indication of negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur, Atalanta or Cagliari. However, with the season entering its decisive months, further monitoring would not be unexpected if performances continue to draw attention.
