Neymar’s reaction to Brazil snub captured on video after Ancelotti decision

Neymar said he was disappointed after being left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s latest Brazil squad, as footage circulated online showing his reaction to the announcement.

Brazil confirmed its squad on Monday for upcoming matches against France and Croatia, with the 34-year-old forward not included. The decision extends Neymar’s absence from the national team following the ACL injury he suffered against Uruguay in 2023.

A video shared by EuroFoot appears to show Neymar watching the squad reveal while receiving treatment. As the list is announced, he realizes he has not been selected and responds with visible frustration.

Speaking in the clip, Neymar said: “Hey Ancelotti, what about me? The national team has just been announced. We were not called up. I'm sad obviously. That's what I said yesterday.

"I'll always root for the national team and everything's fine.

"Now it's time to keep working, keep improving in everything and if there's an opportunity, be prepared. I was upset you know, I was sad. Now I'm sad but for me, is a done deal.

"Tomorrow I have to stop being sad. I need to work, train, play, so if an opportunity arises to be at the World Cup, I'm prepared.”

Neymar, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances, recently returned to Santos after spells with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. His omission comes despite speculation he could be recalled following his recovery.

Instead, Ancelotti selected a number of less-experienced attacking options, including Brentford striker Igor Thiago, Bournemouth prospect Rayan and Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara. Defenders Danilo and Leo Pereira were also among those called up.

Tottenham forward Richarlison, who started Brazil’s final match at the last World Cup, was another notable exclusion.

Even without several established names, Brazil’s squad still features a range of attacking talent, including Raphinha, Vinicius Jr., Joao Pedro, Matheus Cunha, Endrick and Gabriel Martinelli.

With the 2026 World Cup set to feature an expanded 48-team format, Neymar’s path back into the national team remains uncertain, though he indicated he intends to continue working toward a return.
