ESL One Birmingham 2026 brings Dota 2 and DreamHack together in UK debut

According to reporting by John Popko for Inven Global, the event will take place from March 22-29 at the NEC Birmingham, with 16 teams competing for a total prize pool of $1m. The final matches will be staged in front of a live audience at the BP Pulse LIVE arena.

Event overview and UK debut

The tournament represents DreamHack’s first event in the UK, integrating ESL One into a broader gaming festival format. Ticket holders for the live finals, starting at £25, will also gain access to DreamHack’s wider attractions, including expo areas, freeplay zones and cosplay activities.

According to Inven Global, this combined format signals a shift away from standalone arena events toward more immersive fan experiences that blend esports with entertainment.

The competition is part of the ESL Pro Tour, meaning participating teams will earn ranking points that contribute to qualification for future events on the circuit.

Format and competitive structure

The group stage is scheduled for March 22, 25, with 16 teams split into two groups of eight. Each group will play a single round robin format, with matches consisting of two game series.

From there, the top two teams in each group advance to the upper bracket of the playoffs, while third and fourth place finishers move into the lower bracket. Teams finishing in the bottom half are eliminated.

The playoff stage runs from March 27, 29 and follows a double elimination format. Most matches are best of three, while the Grand Final will be played as a best of five series.

The winning team will receive $250,000, alongside additional club rewards and a significant share of ESL Pro Tour points.

Teams and qualification paths

According to Inven Global, the lineup includes prominent organizations such as Team Spirit, OG, Tundra Esports and Virtus.Pro. Other participating teams include Xtreme Gaming, BetBoom Team, Nigma Galaxy, Team Falcons, MOUZ, Aurora Gaming, GamerLegion and PaiN Gaming.

Some teams qualified through their position on the ESL Pro Tour leaderboard, while others earned their place through regional qualification tournaments and allocated slots.

Broadcast lineup and live experience

The event will feature a well known broadcast team, with Neal Tsunami Khandheria and Jorien Sheever van der Heijden hosting the desk. Ted PyrionFlax Forsyth and Jake Slacks Kanner will handle stage and sideline duties.

Commentary and analysis will be provided by figures such as Austin Cap Walsh and Owen ODPixel Davies, alongside other established names in the Dota 2 scene.

Beyond the matches, attendees can take part in a range of on site activities. These include cosplay showcases, interactive fan experiences, themed giveaways and photo opportunities. According to Inven Global, additional activations such as the DHL Golden Ticket and other sponsored experiences will also be available.

The Grand Final will feature a live performance by folk group The Longest Johns, adding to the festival atmosphere.

Those attending in person will have access not only to the tournament but also to the full DreamHack Birmingham experience. This includes gaming zones, community activities and live entertainment across the venue.
