Paul Scholes names one player who could stop Arsenal winning the Premier League
Paul Scholes believes Manchester City still have a route back into the Premier League title race and that Rodri could be central to it.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, the former Manchester United midfielder pointed to the Spanish midfielder’s return to form as a potential turning point in the closing weeks of the season.
“I think that’s the best he [Rodri] has looked since he’s come back from his injury,” Scholes said. “If he carries on like that, they’ll be unstoppable.”
Rodri recently returned from a long-term ACL injury and played a key role in City’s 2-0 win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final, a result that has added a layer of uncertainty to what had looked like a straightforward title charge for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Despite that setback, Arsenal remain in a strong position. They are nine points clear at the top of the table with seven matches remaining, although City have a game in hand. According to Reuters, the gap still leaves Arsenal firmly in control, but the margin could narrow quickly if results swing.
Scholes suggested momentum may now be shifting. He dismissed concerns that the international break would interrupt City’s rhythm, instead arguing the Wembley victory could have the opposite effect.
“No, I think that’ll give them massive confidence,” he said. “If they win the game in hand and beat Arsenal, it’s only three points all of a sudden.”
That scenario would significantly tighten the race, particularly with a crucial meeting between the two sides scheduled at the Etihad Stadium on April 19.

Rodri’s record in that fixture may also offer City encouragement. The midfielder has yet to lose in 12 appearances against Arsenal, underlining his influence in one of the league’s most decisive matchups.
For Arsenal, the equation remains simple: continue their pattern of responding strongly to setbacks, and the title is theirs. They have consistently bounced back from defeats this season, a sign of growth compared to previous campaigns where they fell short.
Still, the closing weeks will test that resilience. City, despite dropping points in recent league matches, have the experience of chasing down leads and with Rodri regaining form, Scholes believes they have a player capable of shifting the balance.
