Arteta’s future questioned after defeat
Arsenal’s Premier League title push has come under renewed strain after a surprising home defeat to Bournemouth, increasing scrutiny around Mikel Arteta at a decisive point in the campaign.
With roughly a month left in the season, the timing of the downturn could prove costly. Manchester City’s win at Stamford Bridge has cut the gap at the top to six points, and Pep Guardiola’s side still hold a game in hand—tilting the balance of the race.
The result leaves Arsenal with three defeats from their last four matches in all competitions, a sequence that has also included exits from both domestic cups. A campaign that once looked in control is now at risk of slipping away during the run-in.
In comments reported by OLBG, body language expert Darren Stanton said Arteta appeared visibly frustrated during his post-match press conference, pointing to signs of both anger and restraint.

“We saw him flash expressions of real anger,” Stanton said. “He was absolutely furious at this team for what happened against Bournemouth, but it’s not just this result.”
He suggested the reaction reflected a wider drop in standards: “He is so angry for what has become of them in recent games, even before this latest setback.”
Stanton also highlighted what he described as controlled behavior, noting that Arteta appeared to weigh his words carefully in public. “We can see lip suppression where he wants to say things that he knows he can’t,” he said.
He further pointed to indicators such as facial tension and an increased blink rate as possible signs of pressure. While such readings are inherently subjective, they underline the level of attention now surrounding Arsenal’s recent performances.

The immediate schedule offers little margin for error. A Champions League meeting with Sporting provides a chance to steady momentum, but focus will quickly shift to a pivotal league clash with Manchester City. The outcome of that match could significantly shape the title race.
For Arteta, the task is now straightforward but far from simple: halt the slide, restore belief, and prove Arsenal can still deliver under pressure when it matters most.
